Looking Ahead at the Bartlett Library: January

The Bartlett Public Library District plays host to a myriad of events for the public. The following is a list of categorized programs happening during the month of January: Adult, Technology and Youth & Teen.

Adult:

Wonderfully You: Enhancing Your Natural Beauty

Monday, January 13 at 7:00 p.m.

Nordstrom make-up artist Tina Taing will teach you easy to follow makeup techniques to help you look and feel your best. Learn how to find the right colors, products and beauty tools to enhance your unique look. Please bring a mirror so you can follow along as Tina demonstrates on a model. Feel free to bring your own beauty products. Samples will be provided. This program is for ages 18 and older.

Love and Marriage: Musical Theater Style

Saturday, January 18 at 2:00 p.m.

In this heartwarming cabaret, Matt and Cynthia Gruel explore the high and lows of dating, separation, marriage, children and growing older together. Incorporating touching, humorous anecdotes from their own marriage, the couple perform such Broadway favorites as Big Spender, Till There Was You, Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better, People Will Say We're in Love, and Kids.

Navigating the College Search and Admissions Process

Wednesday, January 22 from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.

In this workshop, My College Planning Team explores the complex world of admissions and financial aid to understand what the admissions committee really considers in deciding whom to admit and to award money. We discuss selectivity, fit, essay prep and scholarships, all from the perspective of former admissions and university staff. Registration required. This program is for grades 9-12 and their guardians.

Jazz & More

Sunday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m.

Pianist Terry Andrew will be here to perform jazz tunes from the Great American Songbook. Terry has been entertaining audiences in the Chicago area for over 30 years, welcomes requests and loves audience participation. Join us for an afternoon of great music!

Technology Classes:

Everyday Excel

Saturday, January 11 OR Thursday, January 16 at 10:00 a.m.

Learn the basics of entering data, editing a spreadsheet and performing simple calculations using Microsoft Excel. Registration required.

Google Docs

Saturday, January 18 at 10:00 a.m.

Come learn about Google Docs, Google's cloud word processing program. Google Docs is similar to Microsoft Word. Gmail account required. Registration required.

YouTube Videos

Saturday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m.

This class is designed to introduce the features and functions of YouTube. Registration required.

Ages 13 and Up

Virtual Reality @ the Library

Saturday, January 25 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Sign up for a 30-minute session with the Library's new Mirage Solo Virtual Reality headsets. Immerse yourself into a three-dimensional, computer-generated world. Library staff will be present during your experience to assist you and show you how to use the system. Register for only ONE session. BPLD cardholders only. If attendee is under 18, a parent or guardian must sign a waiver or attendee will not be able to participate. Registration required.

Youth & Teen:

Painting with Condiments Challenge

Wednesday, January 15 from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Think you've got the artist's touch? Try creating a mini painting using only your favorite household condiments: ketchup, mustard, barbecue sauce and mayo. Location: Teen Space. This program is for grades 7-12.

Preschool & Daycare Fair

Saturday, January 18 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

This is a great opportunity for families to meet local preschool and daycare providers. Representatives from various facilities in the area will be available to answer questions and provide information. This program is for all ages.

Tunes with Tim-Children's Music Entertainment

Monday, January 20 from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Chicago "kindie" rocker Tunes with Tim uses his wide repertoire of classic songs-from nursery rhymes to Beatles tunes-to inspire both kids AND adults to dance and sing along while teaching the basics of music including rhythm, tempo, melody and harmony. This lively and interactive performance features a variety of musical instruments. Registration required. This program is for all ages.

Thursday, January 23 from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Families build LEGO creations together! Location: Youth & Teen Services Department. This program is a drop-in family event.

Building Your Own Computer

Wednesday, January 29 from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Come to the Library to learn what is inside a computer, and learn the skills needed to build your own in this hands-on program! Registration required. This program is for grades 6-8.

Boom! Pow! Smash!

Friday, January 31 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.

Holy cartooning class! Mark Anderson will teach kids how to draw awesome superheroes and terrible villains and then decide what happens next! Registration required. This program is for grades 3-6.
