Aurora heritage boards provide scholarship opportunities for local students

Aurora's heritage boards have provided more than $100,000 in scholarships to college-bound students over the years and are working diligently to build upon that legacy through their 2020 scholarship programs.

Scholarships for the Aurora African-American Heritage Advisory Board and the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board are now available and applications are open for eligible students.

Applicants for the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board Scholarship must complete the scholarship online through the Community Foundation of the Fox River Valley Scholarship Program by visiting www.cffrv.org/scholarship-program.

Community members who complete the application will be considered for the scholarship or any of the many other scholarships available through the foundation's scholarship program. Application deadline is Jan. 15. Scholarships will be provided at the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Advisory Board Community Breakfast in June.

The Aurora African-American Heritage Advisory Board's Henry Cowherd Scholarship is available at www.aahab.org. Named in honor of Henry Cowherd, the namesake of Cowherd Middle School and the first African-American elected to the East Aurora Board of Education, African-American Heritage Advisory Board's scholarship is open to students who attend Aurora high schools. Application deadline is Friday, Dec. 20. Scholarships will be presented at the annual Heritage Dinner in February.

In addition, both heritage boards have open seats for community members interested in serving.
