Bear Necessities gives Waukegan boy a PAW Patrol Live night out

Three-year old Samuel Dolcimascolo, son of Dawn and Joe Dolcimascolo of Waukegan, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on Aug. 6, 2019, a day his family will never forget.

Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, a Chicago-based nonprofit dedicated to eliminating pediatric cancer while providing hope and support to families, while helping kids to rediscover their childhood through customized experiences called "Bear Hugs," reached out to Samuel's family to coordinate his special Bear Hug.

Since PAW Patrol is Samuel's favorite television show, his Bear Hug experience was a night at PAW Patrol Live in November. Even though Samuel was dealing with stomach and leg pains throughout the evening, "you weren't able to tell once he got to run around and play," said Samuel's mom, Dawn.

Bear Necessities set Samuel's family and friends up with front row seats, special goodie bags and a private meet and greet with the PAW Patrol performers, all while keeping the environment as germ-free as possible for Samuel.

"It was an incredible night, but the best part was seeing Samuel play, laugh and smile with his friends. He was so happy! Thank you, Bear Necessities, for making his night so special," Dawn said.

Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation was founded in 1992 by Kathleen A. Casey after losing her son "Bear" to pediatric cancer.
