Christmas Day luncheon serves seniors, those in need

Naperville Park District and the Naperville YMCA are sponsoring the 36th annual Community Christmas luncheon for senior citizens and those in need.

The luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. Christmas Day at the Chicago Marriott Naperville at 1801 N. Naper Blvd.

Each year, roughly 160 people attend, enjoying the company of others and a festive meal, served by community volunteers and made possible by donors. Special features include a visit from Santa coordinated by Naperville Bank and Trust, and centerpieces made by students from Indian Prairie Unit District 204.

"Every year, I am truly humbled by the outpouring of kindness from our community and volunteers who make the Christmas Luncheon possible," said Robin Conrad, senior program director and interim executive director of the Kroehler Family YMCA in downtown Naperville. "Building strong communities is at the heart of what we do every day. That is why the Y is proud to be a partner in this event which builds community, brings so much happiness to others and reminds us of the true meaning of Christmas."

This year is the 10th year the park district's has been involved with the event.

"The Christmas Luncheon is one of the most heartwarming events of the year," Executive Director Ray McGury said. "Thanks to all of the donors and volunteers who give generously to bring joy to those who otherwise might be alone."

To attend, interested seniors and families in need must make reservations by Dec. 19 by calling Polly Rhodes at (630) 527-6599. Leave a message with their contact name, phone number, guests' names and the total number in their party.
