Venezuelan filmmaker to speak Dec. 12 at St. Charles library

The St. Charles Public Library will present "Venezuela La Verdad" with filmmaker Stephanie Rodrigues at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, in the library's Carnegie Community Room, 1 S. Sixth Ave.

"Venezuela La Verdad," suitable for English speakers, won Best Feature Documentary & Best of Festival at Spain's 2019 Fusion Film Festival. It now has been nominated for an Emmy for Best Documentary.

Meet its writer, producer, videographer, and editor Stephanie Rodrigues.

Rodrigues' young brother was captured and tortured by the Maduro government during a peaceful protest in 2017. She then dedicated herself to film what was going on in the streets of Maduro's Venezuela.

After a brief introduction and clip, Rodrigues will discuss her process of filmmaking, writing, and production under dangerous conditions, including powerful clips totaling 20 minutes from the feature film. She will also share her personal risks while making this film, causing her to flee from Maduro's regime. A question-and-answer session will follow.
