Get in the holiday spirit with Arlington Heights tree-lighting

Celebrate with the community at the annual tree-lighting ceremony held at North School Park, Eastman and Arlington Heights Road, Friday, Nov. 29, starting at 4 p.m.

Enjoy free rides on the Holly Trolleys from 4 to 7 p.m., sponsored by the village's Special Events Commission. The trolleys will pickup and drop-off riders at North School Park and take them to the Historical Museum, Metropolis and Harmony Park.

An ice sculptor will be creating holiday-themed ice carvings in Harmony Park from 4 to 7 p.m., and those who stop by can also have a free holiday portrait taken by Bravo4studio from 4 to 7 p.m.

The traditional tree-lighting ceremony in North School Park begins at 4:30 p.m. with a performance by the Arlington Heights Park District's Vibe Dancers, followed by a 4:45 p.m. performance of the Dickens Carolers from John Hersey High School.

Following the carolers, park district board President Maryfran Leno and Arlington Heights Mayor Tom Hayes will make a few brief comments and join in the countdown to "flip the switch" that activates the lights of the holiday tree in North School Park, the park's toy-themed displays, as well as the streetscape lights throughout the downtown.

This year's holiday tree, which was delivered and set up by the village's Public Works Department, is a Colorado Blue Spruce donated by the Balmer family from S. Dwyer.

The tree in Harmony Park is also a Colorado Blue Spruce donated by the McCarter family of the 700 block of S. Walnut.

Thanks to the village's Premium Sponsors of events, Wells Fargo Financial Advisors, First Midwest Bank and Bartlett Tree Experts.
