Learn about Aunt Mary's Storybook Project at St. Charles Noon Rotary meeting Nov. 7

On Thursday, Nov. 7, the St. Charles Noon Rotary Club will welcome Jana Minor, founder of the Aunt Mary's Storybook Project.

Minor recognized a great need for services to people who are imprisoned. After time as a stay-at-home mom, she returned to school, obtained a bachelor's degree and started to work for a prison ministry in Peoria. After 6 years, she left that organization and, with the help of her sisters and money left by their aunt, Mary Best, founded Companions, Journeying Together. She later moved to the metropolitan Chicago area and completed a master's degree. She now works as a full-time volunteer for Companions.

Aunt Mary's Storybook Project connects imprisoned parents with their children with new books and recordings of the parents voices.

Minor will talk about the problems for children separated from their parents by imprisonment and why it is important that contact be maintained for families.

Aunt Mary's Storybook is now offered in 10 state prisons and si county jails including Kane where volunteers bring this opportunity three times every month.

The club meets at 12:10 p.m. Thursdays at Colonial Cafe, 1625 E Main St., St. Charles. Visit www.rotarystc.org.
