Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library seeks candidates to fill board vacancy

The Ella Johnson Memorial Public Library District is seeking a qualified legal resident to fill a vacancy on the board of trustees.

A qualified legal resident: must be 18 years old, must be registered to vote within the district, and must reside within the district for at least one year.

Applicants must be available for evening meetings which are held at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month.

Submit letters of interest via U.S. Mail to: Barbara M. Brust, Board President, 303 Century Drive, Hampshire, IL 60140 or via email to geobar722@fvi.net to be received no later than Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Interviews will take place at the Jan. 27, 2020 board meeting.

Feel free to attend any of the scheduled board meetings on Oct. 28, Nov. 25, or Dec. 23 for a preview of how the board works.

The basic trustee functions include:

• Policy-making: to establish and revise policies, through careful study and thoughtful discussion, that will determine the proper course of action.

• Finance: to advise and approve budgets, seeing that the library has the necessary funds available for proper running of the library. To promote referendums and bond levies if necessary, stimulating gifts and endowments.

• Community relations: to see that the community understands the objectives and goals of the library, to promote good public relations whenever possible.
