Pumpkin Palooza rolls into DuPage Children's Museum

Families are encouraged to come in costume and celebrate the fall season during Pumpkin Palooza at the DuPage Children's Museum Saturday, Oct. 26, at 301 N. Washington St. in Naperville.

The event features musical performances, unique creation stations, Touch-A-Tractor and more.

Pumpkin Palooza is full of fun, not frightening, festivities. Pumpkins will be featured in a sensory experience where visitors can scoop and squish in gooey pumpkin guts.

There will also be a Bring Your Own Pumpkin Makerspace. The museum will have all the supplies needed to trick out your pumpkin, from carving to embellishing.

Back by popular demand is the Touch-A-Tractor in the museum's parking lot. Children will have the opportunity to get up close to a few super cool tractors from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Members of Chicago Sinfonietta orchestra will add a musical element to the event with an "Eerie Brass Ensemble" as part of museum's Tiny Great Performances series. Tiny Great Performances are a great way to introduce children to the arts in a family-friendly setting. Performances take place at 10 and 10:45 a.m.

The museum's resident eight-legged friends also will make an appearance during Story Time with a Spider at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

New to Pumpkin Palooza, KidSnips will be helping visitors pump up their hairdos in the "Scare-do" Studio with fun, temporary styles.

Visitors also can create FrankenBuddies with recycled toys in The Studio.

"Splicing together old toys to make something new not only gives the toys new purpose/life, it begs of silliness and encourages participants to re-imagine the objects that make up their world," said Dustin Thacker, art and maker specialist.

Pumpkin Palooza is free for museum members and included with paid general admission. Admission to DuPage Children's Museum is $13 for adults and children 1 and older, and $10 for seniors 59 and older; it's free for members and children under the age of 1 year.
