Tickets on sale for Elgin Scouts spaghetti dinner Nov. 2

On Saturday, Nov. 2, enjoy a dinner out at the annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser, hosted by Elgin Boy Scout Troop 10 and Cub Scout Pack 1855, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 216 E Highland Ave. in Elgin.

Tickets are $6 per person or $20 for a family of four. Children 3 and under eat free. Tickets are available in advance from a Scout or at the door.

Dine on a full spaghetti dinner, including spaghetti, garlic bread, salad, light drinks and desserts made by Scout families.

Door prizes and a silent auction will feature gift certificates and merchandise donated from local businesses.

Proceeds support scouting in Elgin. Scouting provides fun, hands-on learning and achievement that prepares kids with life skills. Fundraisers offset the cost of Scouting for families, helping to support camping, community involvement, learning activities and annual events like the Pinewood Derby and Raingutter Regatta.

Both the Boy Scouts and Cub Scout groups support Elgin through various community activities. Scouts are active helping with Memorial Day flags at Bluff City Cemetery, the flag retirement ceremony with Elgin Veterans of Foreign Wars Post, and the Elgin Fourth of July Parade. They also assist with the Markland Wasmond Summer Games program each year.

Cub Scout Pack 1855 participates in additional community service activities like the November Scouting for Food annual food collection drive to support the Hanover Township Food Pantry, and the fall trash cleanup at the Elgin National Little League fields.

Both Scout groups are chartered by the Elgin Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America. Together the organizations participate in Poplar Creek cleanup, environmental efforts, and archery instruction for youth and adults.
