Elgin's First Congregational Church celebrates neighbors Oct. 6

First Congregational Church, 256 E. Chicago St. in Elgin, will focus on "The Way of the Neighbor" as part of a new series on Jesus as the Way.

In John's Gospel, Jesus is quoted as identifying himself as the way to God, the church will extend that identity in its reflection on learning from local and global neighbors about God. It is World Wide Communion Sunday and all who seek to join in Communion are welcome at Christ's table. Worship services are at 8:15 and 10:15 a.m.

At 9:15 a.m., the congregation will meet and vote on two resolutions, one calling for the adoption of a solar energy electric system on top of the church and the other calling for the church to officially name itself as "Open and Affirming" to all people, including those who are lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual. While all people are welcome at the worship services and meeting, only those who are members of the church may vote.
