Leyden librarian named AISLE School Librarian of the Year

Janine Asmus, librarian at West Leyden High School, has earned the 2019 Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE) School Librarian of the Year Award. Asmus was nominated for the honor by Leyden Superintendent Nick Polyak.

In his nomination letter, Polyak describes Asmus as "very busy with numerous impactful accomplishments at Leyden High Schools." Those accomplishments include bringing Leyden alumni Jonathan Caine, a member of the band Journey and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and Ned Colletti, former GM of the LA Dodgers, back to their alma mater to talk to students, staff and the community about their life experiences and their recently penned memoirs.

Nicolle Mazzola, awards function representative, notes that Asmus was selected in recognition of her outstanding service, leadership contributions and commitment to the organization; and her dedication to the school library profession, as well as West Leyden's school's library, during the previous school calendar year.

Asmus has been invited to attend the AISLE Awards Dinner Banquet to be held on Friday, October 11 at the Wyndham Springfield City Centre in Springfield.

The association's mission is to promote life-long learning by the students of Illinois, provide leadership and support for the development, promotion, and improvement of the school library media profession, and promote programs in Illinois.
