Glenbard West to honor eight Distinguished Alumni

Glenbard West High School will celebrate its Distinguished Alumni during a brief ceremony Saturday, Sept. 28.

The recognition to honor alumni who continue to embody Glenbard West's motto of Pride, Tradition and Excellence will be at 11:30 a.m. on the third floor bridge at Glenbard West.

The 2019 Distinguished Alumni class features eight Glenbard High School and Glenbard West High School alumni from five decades: Joe Carlton (1946), John Clemens (1967), Hollis McCray Webster (1973), "Chip" Hooper (1980), John Borg (1983), James Elliott (1987), Sean Hayes (1988) and Maddi Bertrand (2018).

Joe Carlton, Class of 1946: He is being honored for his dedication to Glenbard's football story. He literally wrote the book on Glenbard West's football program, "As the Backs Go Tearing By."

Hollis Webster, Class of 1973: She is being honored for her work as a jurist. In addition to practicing law, Webster was a judge in DuPage County for many years until her retirement a few years ago. She now has her own arbitration firm in Chicago and takes on cases with large corporations.

John Borg, Class of 1982: He is being honored for his talent creating and designing pinball machines. He is, arguably, one of the best solid state pinball designers of all time, designing Star Wars, Tales from the Crypt, Mary Shelly's Frankenstein, Guns N Roses, and The Munsters - just to name a few.

Jim Elliott, Class of 1987: He is being honored for his baseball pursuits, as well as his career in medical and physical therapy practice and research. Jim is one of the global leaders, an expert on whiplash injuries.

Sean Hayes, Class of 1988: He is being honored for his acting work in television, movies and on the stage. Among his accomplishments, Hayes won an Emmy Award, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, and an American Comedy Award. He also has earned six Golden Globe nominations.

Chicago's Lurie Children's Hospital gave Bertrand a Hope and Courage award for her advocacy efforts that helped change the legal age to buy tobacco products in Illinois from 18 to 21.
