'Rally Day' begins mission focus at Elgin's First Congregational Church

On Sunday, Sept. 8, First Congregational Church in Elgin will celebrate "Rally Day."

"Rally Day" is traditionally observed by churches as a day that the fall programming begins. The big event is usually the opening of a church's Sunday school.

First Congregational Church will do that, of course, but for them "Rally Day" is the opening rally for the church's mission work for the coming year.

This year, a confirmation class will be commissioned for their journey of discovery over the coming year, new members will be received, and congregational visitors will be commissioned to visit people who are ill or confined to home or other institutions.

In addition, the "Live Love" theme for 2019-20 will be launched with a sermon on how the congregation's work in care of the environment is biblically grounded.

Worship services are at 8:15 and 10:15 a.m. There will be ice cream sundaes after the second service.

First Congregational Church is at 256 E. Chicago St. For details, visit fcc-elgin.org or www.facebook.com/fccelgin.
