See World's Largest Orthopaedic Cast Aug. 31 and Sept. 1

The Northshore Orthopaedic & Spine Institute recently set a Guinness World Record for the "Largest Orthopaedic Cast" at a length of 12 feet and width of 5 feet. A leg cast this big would fit a 78-foot-tall person.

"Orthopaedic problems are the leading cause of disability in the U.S. It's a big problem, and we wanted to bring attention to this in a big way," said Jason Koh, M.D., director of the Orthopaedic & Spine Institute in Skokie.

"It's a fun event for the community and to acknowledge and celebrate our team of doctors, nurses and staff who have made the Orthopaedic & Spine Institute the largest hospital provider of orthopaedic care in the Chicago area."

The cast will be on display Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 31 and Sept. 1, at Westfield Old Orchard mall, Skokie Boulevard and Old Orchard Road, Skokie, at the glass cube near Macy's during mall hours.

Visitors are encouraged to sign the cast and take photos to share on social media with the hashtag #WorldsLargestCast.

Northshore Orthopaedic & Spine Institute has also partnered with The Remix Project, an art school for inner-city youth from underserved communities, whose members have artistically decorated 10 normal-sized casts that will be on display. Community members can vote for their favorites on-site.
