Dundee Township Lions to offer vision screening Aug. 17

On Saturday, Aug. 17, the Dundee Township Lions will offer diabetic retinopathy/macular degeneration screening for free.

The evaluations will be held during the Senior Health Fair at Dundee Township Senior Center, 665 Barrington Ave. in Carpentersville. Evaluations will be 9:30 a.m. to noon. No appointments are required.

Screening is in conjunction with Illinois Lions Foundation vision services.

It is designed to screen people who are in high-risk categories for diabetic retinopathy.

Traveling across Illinois, the mobile unit carries a non-mydriatic camera with digital imaging capability that photographs the retina. These digital images (computer photos) of the retina are reviewed by professional staff at Illinois Retina Associates. Persons found to exhibit symptoms of retinal disease after screening are encouraged to seek the ophthalmologic care of their choice.
