Enjoy the taste of Highwood's Garlic Fest Aug. 14

Daily Herald staff report

Revel in the flavor of garlic when Celebrate Highwood's annual Garlic Fest returns Wednesday, Aug. 14.

The event will run from 4:30-9:30 p.m. in Everts Park, 102 Highwood Ave., Highwood.

Attendees can sample a variety of garlic creations, from expected foods like pastas, sauces and breads, to surprising offerings such as garlic ice cream, candy, cupcakes and cocktails.

The kid- and pet-friendly event is held during Highwood's Evening Gourmet Market, so festivalgoers can shop for other treats in addition to the garlic goodness.

The fest will feature a Taste of Garlic Competition with both People's Choice and Judges' Choice awards in Savory and Sweet categories.

There will also be the annual Garlic Prince or Princess (age 6-17) and King or Queen (over 18) competitions. Contestants will have 1 to 3 minutes to explain why they should be Highwood's next Royal Garlic Representative.

Admission is free. Bring your own chair or blanket if you want to dine on the grass.

For information, including a list of vendors, or to register for the Garlic Royalty contests, visit www.celebratehighwood.org/garlic-fest.
