WHY:

• National 811 day is observed each year on August 11th to raise awareness about calling 811 before you dig.

• Every six minutes an underground utility line is damaged because someone decided to dig without first calling 811.

• Sharing this safety message with community members is important because there are eight different utilities located underground and striking a single line can cause injury, repair costs, fines and inconvenient outages.

• Every digging project, such as installing a mailbox, building a deck, or planting a tree warrants a call to 8-1-1.
