Oswego Methodists to host ice cream social, band concert Aug. 11

On Sunday, Aug. 11, Church of the Good Shepherd United Methodist, 5 W. Washington St. in Oswego, will hold an ice cream social fundraiser with music from 4:30 to 7 p.m.

The public is invited. Admission is free. The event by United Methodist Women will benefit church programs.

In addition to ice cream and toppings, the menu includes barbecues, hot dogs, potato chips, homemade brownies and pies and beverages.

Providing entertainment will be We the Least, a Christian band from Mendota. Members are Dell May and siblings Nathanael and Michaela DeLong. May is the grandson of Diane and Dennis Clode of Oswego, Church of Good Shepherd members.

The band recently released its first 11-track album, "Screw It Up." The trio states its mission is to write songs to the glory of Jesus. The group is currently playing shows in both the Chicago and Lasalle County areas.

Founded in 1896, Church of the Good Shepherd remains one of Oswego's most iconic landmarks. Distinctive features are its towering steeple and collection of stained glass windows donated by church-member families.
