Bid on chance to be part of PM&L's 'Pirates of Penzance'

Submitted by PM&L Theatre

A rollicking band of pirates has landed in Antioch and is looking for recruits.

PM&L Theatre's production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Pirates of Penzance" opens July 26 and will run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays until Aug. 11. The play is directed by Mark Audrain, who previously directed "Almost, Maine" at PM&L.

The comic operetta revolves around Frederic (Liam Bell), who joins a group of tenderhearted pirates led by the Pirate King (Nic Cicerale) after being released from his indentured apprenticeship after completing his 21st year on the planet.

He falls in love with Mabel (Annika Churchill), the ward of Major-General Stanley (Ari Cohen), and learns that his birthday falls on Feb. 29, which means he technically only has a birthday every leap year, so he has to stay with the pirates he apprenticed with for another 63 years.

Ever dutiful, Frederic's only solace is that Mabel will wait for him faithfully until that day arrives.

PM&L Theatre is auctioning off the opportunity to have a walk-on role for every performance of "The Pirates of Penzance." The auction will conclude July 26.
