Villa Park medical assistant wins humanitarian award

Janet Reyes-Macaranas, a resident of Villa Park and a registered medical assistant with Elmhurst Clinic, recently received the Philippine Independence Week Committee's "Humanitarian and Leadership Award."

Reyes-Macaranas, a native of the Philippines where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, was recognized for her outstanding service and involvement with the Filipino community of the Chicago area and the Midwest.

She is president of the "We Care Cabusao Foundation" in Cabusao, Camarines Sur, Philippines. The group's many humanitarian projects include three medical missions to the Philippines since 2013, construction of chapels, distribution of relief goods and school supplies, and monthly activities for children and senior citizens.
