District 211 students complete library board term

Two students from Township High School District 211 recently completed their terms as student advisor trustees for the Schaumburg Township District Library.

James B. Conant High School student Alisa Gandhi and Schaumburg High School student Matthew Williams were sworn in to their position in September, 2018, with the term ending this month.

Gandhi said serving in the position gave her a new perspective on library operations.

"Being a student advisor trustee broadened my horizons on what goes on behind the scenes," she said.

"I learned what is involved in getting certain things approved. I understood the importance of statistics on every aspect of the library. It was a wonderful opportunity and I enjoyed the position given to me."

Williams stated that he hoped their work helped spread information about the tools and services available to teens in the area.

"It has been a privilege to serve with Alisa over the past year. I believe that, together, we as a team have been successful in sharing the many library resources and initiatives geared toward teens, such as online study help, standardized test prep, summer/winter reading engagement programs and expert research assistance," he said.

"It is my hope that our work will increase teen engagement with the library when students are in need of additional resources to support or further their learning in the future."

Students selected for the position can serve a total of two years. Each term runs from September through the following July. In their position, they will provide a unique student perspective that the board would not have.

They will also work to help make teens aware of the variety of activities being hosted by the library. Teen Outreach Librarian Anna Pederson said each group of SAT's contribute to the library in their own ways.
