Palatine Pirates pedal the Wisconsin pavement

Five members of the Palatine High School Class of '73 participated in the 240 mile Swiss Cheese and Spotted Cow bike ride through central Wisconsin recently. Two of those riders, Scott Williams and Michael Kett, participated in a ride from Lacrosse Wisconsin to Palatine in 1972, the summer prior to their senior year. Joining the group this time were Joel Davenport, John Nyholt and Dave Bailey.

Surprisingly, 11 of the 64 riders lived in Palatine at one time. The riders experienced the natural beauty of America's Dairyland in addition to challenging hills and a couple of storms. The five members from the Class of '73 proudly wore their "Once a Pirate, Always a Pirate" T-shirts one night at a restaurant, where they were joined by other Palatine High graduates in singing the PHS fight song.
