Guest speaker to lead special Vineyard Church service

On Sunday, June 30, Vineyard Church of Elgin, 220 Division St., welcomes Steve Nicholson as guest speaker for a special evening worship service, "Come, Holy Spirit."

The service starts at 6 p.m., kicking off the final week of 40 days of prayer and fasting by several hundred Vineyard churches across the country, including the Elgin congregation.

A team from Thrive Vineyard in Palatine will lead worship, and ministry time will follow the evening message.

The Rev. Tom Severson, pastor at Elgin Vineyard invites the community to attend.

"I think we're at a time in the life of the Church where, if ever we have needed the power and presence of the Holy Spirit, this is it," Severson said. "We can either do the routine of church or we can press into God's presence and his life."

Nicholson has served the Vineyard movement for 40 years, training leaders and church planters around the world.

He founded the church that would become Evanston Vineyard with other young leaders who likewise prioritized contemporary worship, biblical teaching and openness to the Holy Spirit.

He currently serves as the senior pastor at Evanston, now a diverse congregation of more than 50 different nations, with no majority racial or cultural group.

The public also is welcome to attend Elgin Vineyard's Sunday morning service at 10 a.m., with Rev. Severson preaching. A free coffee bar opens at 9:30 a.m. and again after service.
