Contestants vie for crowns at Mundelein Pageants Competition

Submitted by the village of Mundelein

As a kickoff to the annual Mundelein Days celebration, 22 young women will compete in the 2019 Mundelein Pageants at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 30.

Nine contestants will be competing for the title of Little Miss Mundelein; eight contestants will be competing to be Junior Miss Mundelein; and five contestants will be competing to be Miss Mundelein.

The Mundelein Pageant will be held at Mundelein High School's main auditorium, 1350 W. Hawley St., Mundelein. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens; children 5 and under are free. The public is welcome to attend.

"More than just a crown and sash, these pageants are really about young ladies being chosen to represent the village of Mundelein as they participate in many community activities throughout their reign. Being a part of our pageant system helps new contestants learn many important life skills through interviewing and public speaking. For those contestants who have been in pageants before, it helps them to continue to polish those skills. In addition to having fun and making new friends, the Mundelein Pageants have been the traditional opening to the celebration of Mundelein's Fourth of July Community Days for many years," Pageant Director Betty Hurmis said.

Mayor Steve Lentz will participate in the crowning of the new 2019 Mundelein Queens. The 2018 Mundelein Queens - Miss Mundelein Kimberly Barr, Junior Miss Mundelein Victoria Weaver and Little Miss Mundelein Sofia Cabachuela - will be on hand for their farewell presentation.
