College youth speak about mission trip at Flowing Forth UMC service

A trio of Fox Valley college students and a Methodist pastor spent May 26-June 1 helping build a home for a family in Reynosa, Mexico.

Lindsey Wegner of Batavia and Anna Bross and Natalie Steffen of Aurora reported on the project June 16 to congregants at Flowing Forth United Methodist Church in Aurora.

Led by Rev. Derek Rogers, Flowing Forth pastor, the trio partnered with seven volunteers from Myers Park United Methodist Church, Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Aurora team opened their presentation with a video chronicling their experiences in Mexico. Volunteers rounded out construction with evening games, devotions and Bible studies with local residents.

The Aurora team assisted Faith Ministry, a nonprofit with locations in McAllen, Tex. and Reynosa.

A second mission team of 11 high school youth and nine adults including pastor Rogers traveled by vehicles to Oklahoma City June 8-16 to help residents rebuild from a 2013 tornado. The Aurora team partnered with Next Step Ministry, a Madison, Wis.-based nonprofit that coordinates short-term mission trips for long-term community development.

At a 10 a.m. worship service Sunday, June 23, the mission team will give a recap of their activities. The public is invited.

Flowing Forth UMC meets at Aurora Christian School, 2255 Sullivan Road, Aurora. Call (630) 239-2321 for more information.
