Former Glen Ellyn native to run across Australia

Ten years after her record run across America, Katie Visco, a former Glen Ellyn native and Glenbard West 2003 graduate, will be running across Australia starting July 13.

The route begins on the northern coast in Darwin and heads south to Adelaide, through the Tanami, Central, and Simpson deserts. Instead of the ease of using vehicle support, her husband, Henley Phillips, will be supporting Visco on bicycle, peddling up to 400 pounds of gear, food, and water at a time.

The 2,112-mile run will take an estimated 3.5 months to complete and will become the first bicycle-supported transcontinental run across any continent.

Visco's purpose is to show a message to herself and others - let courage win, curiosity is extremely powerful and can be trusted, and to not, for one second, let fear undermine your dreams.
