Petite Opera holds Military Chorus Auditions June 8 and 11

(PARK RIDGE, IL-May 24, 2019) Petite Opera is holding volunteer Military Chorus auditions June 8 and 11 in Des Plaines IL for "The Falling and The Rising," a powerful new opera that salutes the service and sacrifice of our military. All Chicago-area active-duty, veteran and ROTC military service men and women who like to sing are invited to audition. Petite Opera will present the Chicago Premiere.

Conceived by an Army Sergeant and commissioned by the Army, The Falling and The Rising is designed to connect civilians and soldiers. This powerful story is based on interviews from real soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. The final scene of the show features the lead performers and a volunteer military chorus, which is woven from all service branches, genders and eras.

After seeing a production of The Falling and the Rising, a Battle of the Bulge veteran said, "I've been a military veteran for over 60 years, and this is the first production that has truly told the story of what we went through."

"The entire production is so incredibly moving. When the military chorus appeared, I felt such an overwhelming surge of gratitude and pride, that tears came to my eyes. It was truly an inspirational and life-changing experience, and I knew we needed to bring this to Chicago," said Cathy Dunn, Petite Opera's Stage Director.

Petite Opera encourages all military personnel - active-duty, ROTC, veteran - to audition. "You don't need to be a trained singer, or even know how to read music, just love to sing," says Petite Opera Executive Director, Susan Baushke. "This is a very casual audition environment. Just be prepared to sing a song you love and sing your best. If you have sheet music, bring it. Otherwise, just bring your love of your military service and your country."

Those interested in auditioning should visit petiteopera.org and click on the Sign up For Auditions Now link. Those who don't have computer access should call 847.553.4442 and leave your name and phone number; a Petite Opera staff member will call to help you select an audition time and give you more information.
