Cinco de Mayo Fiesta hosted by Leyden's Dreamers and Allies Club

The Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, hosted by the West Leyden Dreamers and Allies Club, will be held on Sunday, May 5th at 2 p.m. The festival will be held in conjunction with Teatro Leyden's production of "El Espiritu de Hispania" (Spirit of Hispania).

There will be two shows on that day, one Spanish language performance at noon, and one English language performance at 4 p.m. The festival will take place at 2 p.m., between the two shows.

With the purchase of tickets, participants can enjoy food, drinks and family activities such as face painting, Loteria (Mexican bingo), a photo booth and much more. Tickets are $1 a piece. Admission to the festival is free.

In addition, the celebration will feature music by Tamborazo El Granero, a traditional Mexican-music band.

Organizers say the West Leyden Dreamers and Allies Club is on a mission to create a safe space not only for undocumented students, but for all students to join together as a community in support of each other. All proceeds from the festival will benefit the club's scholarship fund.

"The goal for this event is to raise funds for our club's scholarship fund," explains Lilia Ortega, club sponsor and a counselor at West Leyden. "We award scholarships to undocumented students attending West Leyden. Our club has been able to award two $1000.00 scholarships to seniors from the class of 2019. It is our hope that with the support of the community, we can continue to provide scholarships for years to come."

The club gratefully accepts donations in support of its scholarship fund.
