Submitted by Lincolnshire-Prairie View District 103

After winning its record-setting ninth consecutive state championship, the Science Olympiad Team from Daniel Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire will compete in the Science Olympiad National Tournament at Cornell University in New York at the end of May.

The Daniel Wright team earned first place in the middle school "B-AA" division at the state tournament on Saturday, April 13, held at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Accomplishments of the team members earned the school another bid to compete at the national level.

Previously Daniel Wright took first place at nationals in 2016 and 2017, and placed second in 2018.

Varsity team members competing at nationals are 7-year-olds Angela Guo, Jeffrey Lu, Medha Mamidipaka, Vedant Rathi and Angela Wang, 7; and 8-year-olds Andrew Li, Iris Li, Katherine Li, Eleana Liu, Kevin Qian, Kaushal Rajesh, Srihas Rao, Yash Vijay, Rishabh Wuppalapati and Matthew Zhu.

The incredible success of this team can be attributed to the students who have been well coached by parent event coaches who are assisted by staff members Eric Rexer and Lisa Solesky. The team of coaches train and assist the students on 23 individual events.
