Special needs basketball open gyms planned at Fort Hill Activity Center April 6 and May 4

For the first time, Naperville Park District will offer two Special Needs Open Gyms at Fort Hill Activity Center this spring.

The first will be held from 1:30-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, and the next session is set for Saturday, May 4 from 2 to 4 p.m.

"A parent brought to our attention that his son, who has special needs, had difficulty finding an open gym with the right environment for him," explained Kristina McGrath, Fort Hill Fitness Manager. "He suggested a special needs open gym time, and we are thrilled to make this available to families in the area who likely are facing similar challenges."

All ages are welcome to attend the Special Needs Open Gyms and may bring family members with them.

The cost is the regular open gym fee at Fort Hill Activity Center, which is $4 for Naperville Park District residents and $5 for nonresidents.

Participants are asked to bring their own basketball.

Play is unstructured so that participants can just practice shooting or play a pickup game.

Fort Hill Activity Center is located at 20 Fort Hill Drive in Naperville.
