Long Grove-Kildeer Garden Club Hosts Free Seminar on Spring Ephemerals April 8th

Spring is one of the busier times at Reed-Turner Woodland Preserve in Long Grove, as wildflower lovers come out to enjoy the sights and take endless photos of the spring ephemerals.

What is an ephemeral, you ask? It's a perennial plant that emerges quickly in the spring and dies back to just its underground root or bulb for the remainder of the year. Reed-Turner's diverse terrain - field, woodland, stream, sun and shade, wet and dry - provides lots of spots for different ephemerals. And because they have been protected for decades in the preserve, they flourish.

The Long Grove-Kildeer Garden Club is hosting a free seminar on ephemerals at Reed Turner Woodland Nature Center at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, April 8. Ed Max, Landscape Architect, will be the guest speaker. All are welcome.

The Nature Center is at 3849 Old McHenry Road in Long Grove. Take a hike through the Woodland afterward to see what wildflowers have already emerged.
