Celebrate National Bookmobile Day April 10 with Aurora Public Library District

Did you know that April 10 is National Bookmobile Day?

On Wednesday, April 10, libraries across the country will celebrate National Bookmobile Day, a time to remember the integral and vital services that bookmobiles provide to the community. The Aurora Public Library District invites you to join them at the Alden of Waterford bookmobile stop from 3 to 3:30 p.m. to celebrate the bookmobile!

You can win special giveaways and participate in a video. They will be creating a video with customers saying why they love the bookmobile.

They will have a commemorative tote book bag for those who participate in the project! It will be used on the library's website and as a way to start the campaign for a new bookmobile. Stay tuned for future articles on the new bookmobile.

"The Aurora Public Library bookmobiles have been making memories for the residents of Aurora for 66 years," said Kathleen Butzen, outreach manager. "I hope on this special day by creating a video we can continue to make more memories."

The Aurora Public Library has been operating a bookmobile since 1953 and has stops all over the City of Aurora, not just at the schools.

Haven't been on the bookmobile yet? Well, what are you waiting for? The bookmobile is not just for kids, it's truly a library on wheels.

The bookmobile can perform any library service you might expect at one of the branches: you can place a hold, pick up a hold, get a library card, renew your card and participate in the Summer Reading Challenge.

If this wasn't enough for you to love the bookmobile, here are some fun facts about it.

The bookmobile is 10 feet longer than a school bus and has an accessibility lift. In 2018, it was about 8,000 miles just within the city limits. In the summer time, you will find the bookmobile at various parks where kids can be found listening to "Stories in the Park."

The American Library Association started the National Bookmobile Day in 2010 as a way to recognize the contributions of dedicated bookmobile staff who provide vital library services to their communities through a fleet of more than 930 bookmobiles nationally, including Aurora's!
