Renz Center offers new support group for families
Community residents who have a family member struggling with a substance use disorder are encouraged to participate in a new support group, Among Friends.
Starting Wednesday, March 20, Among Friends will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesdays at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Elgin.
The support group will be facilitated by a Renz Addiction Counseling Center's substance use disorder counselor.
"Substance misuse can have a significant impact on family members," said Renz Center's Executive Director Jerry Skogmo. "Participating in a healthy support system can help spouses, partners, parents and siblings understand the complexities of addiction, while also getting support from others going through similar experiences."

The First Congregational United Church of Christ is at 256 E. Chicago St. in Elgin. Parking is provided, and attendees may enter the church off Chicago St., go downstairs and follow the hallway to the library.
The Among Friends Support Group is funded in part by a First Congregational United Church of Christ Missions grant.
Renz Center provides a continuum of care dedicated to the prevention, intervention and treatment of addictive behaviors related to alcohol, drugs, and gambling. Services range from prevention programs for youth in the schools to outpatient treatment programs for adolescents and adults. Priority is given to pregnant women and women with dependent children. Offices are in Elgin, St. Charles and Streamwood.
Renz Addiction Counseling Center is licensed by the state of Illinois for its adult and adolescent outpatient treatment programs.
