Link Elementary announces Young Author's Contest winners

Adolph Link Elementary School, Elk Grove Village, held its fifth annual Young Author's Contest, which is organized annually by Jill Stacey, a fifth-grade teacher.

Winners of the contest have the opportunity to attend the Young Author's State Conference May 18 in Normal. During the conference, students will have the opportunity to share their stories and meet with published authors to learn about how they come about ideas for their stories.

This year's Young Author's Contest winners are Alex Cronfel and Vanshika Singh.

Alex Cronfel is the third-/fourth-grade winner. He wrote a story titled "Nightmare Before You Know It." It's about a boy named Jack who dreams his friend, Adam, is falling. Then, at school, he believes he sees Adam in drama club but he looks different - dirty and tired. He soon realizes there are two Adams. The one from his dream came to life and tries to destroy both Adam and Jack.

Vanshika Singh, the fifth-/sixth-grade winner, wrote a story titled "Creativity is Nothing But a Mind Set Free." It's about a girl, Sara, who gets bullied by a girl named Jessie. When summer begins, both girls find themselves at camp together. When a group of them get trapped in a cave, Sara finds an exit but needs the help of others to escape.

Jessie joins in and during the process realizes she needs to change. She apologizes and not only befriends Sara, but instills confidence in her.
