Palatine American Legion fish frys start March 1

The Palatine American Legion Post 690, Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion are holding a series of fish frys during Lent.

The fish frys, which are open to the public, will be from 5:45 to 8 p.m. Fridays. In March, there are fish frys March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. In April, the fish frys will be April 5 and 12 and on Good Friday, April 19.

The fish frys are served upstairs in the family-friendly banquet hall at the post, 122 W. Palatine Road, in Palatine.

"We will be serving crunchy battered cod dinners for $11 for adults, $9 for veterans or senior citizens over 65 years old and $5 for children under 10 years old," said Erica Bartnicki, project chair.

"The dinners include a garden salad, fish, tater tots, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, rolls, coffee and dessert. A full service bar is available for drinks in the banquet hall and downstairs in the Legion's clubroom."

Proceeds benefit Legion Family Charities.

"We are always looking for new members for the American Legion," said Bartnicki. "If you are interested in supporting those individuals who have defended our country, then the Legion is the organization for you. If you have any questions on the American Legion, Legion Auxiliary, the Sons of the American Legion or any of our activities, call us at (847) 359-1606."

The American Legion Family consists of the American Legion, the Sons of the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. The American Legion and Legion Auxiliary began in 1919, while the S.A.L. was created in 1932.

These organizations are committed to mentoring and sponsoring youth programs in their communities, advocating patriotism and honor, promoting strong national security, and continued devotion to fellow service members and veterans.
