Spend a purr-fect day at Lincoln State Cat Club show

Daily Herald report

It's an event where cat lovers can watch purebred cats and household pets being judged, meet cat breeders and purchase products geared toward felines.

The Lincoln State Cat Club will host its 58th Annual Pedigree and Household Pet Cat Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23 and 24, at the Kane County Fairgrounds, 525 Randall Road in St. Charles, corner of Randall Road and Route 38.

Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and children ages 6 and older. Children younger than 6 will be admitted free. There is ample free parking. For information, visit www.lscats.org.

There will be up to 225 cats on display for the public to view and, for the first time ever, there will be 11 separate rings of competition. This is where the pedigree cat and the household pet stars will compete to become the Best in Show.

This year's theme is to honor "Rescue Super Heroes." This includes all of those who rescue cats and other animals from shelters, along with those who administer programs to spay and neuter feral cats. To help celebrate these individuals, there will be an award presentation for the No. 1 Rescue Super Hero.

Super Hero Garfield will be at the show walking around visiting with the kids Saturday and Sunday. Free coloring books will be handed out to all kids. The coloring book is a simple way to read up on how to "Love and Take Care of Your Kitty."

The show will have educational seminars all weekend long. These seminars include the care, health and well-being of our family felines and the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.

Also, two veterinarians, a groomer, pet-sitters and feline behavior counselors will present information on how to take care of your cat. For those looking for a new addition to the family, there will be shelters and rescues with cats available for adoption.

The Lincoln State Cat Club gives back to the community. All proceeds from the show will be given to different feline groups, such as the Winn Foundation, the Morris Foundation and organizations that rescue and shelter cats for adoption.

Over the years, the Lincoln State Cat Club has donated more than $100,000 to the Morris Foundation for research on the health and care of our cats. The only way this is made possible is by the club hosting its annual show.

There also will be up to 40 vendors offering a variety of cat care accessories, arts, jewelry, cat play and toy products.
