Sheriff offering two $500 scholarships

DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick and the Illinois Sheriffs' Association have announced the association will award $50,000 in college scholarships across the state to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2019-2020 academic year.

The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning in Illinois.

Mendrick will award two $500 scholarships to two DuPage County residents.

There will be no restriction on any applicant by reason of race, age, creed, color, sex or national origin. The only limitations are as follows:

• Applicants must be permanent Illinois residents.

• Scholarships must be used at institutions of higher learning in Illinois.

• Students must be enrolled full-time during the 2019-2020 school year (excluding summer session).

Applications are available from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the sheriff's office, 501 N. County Farm Road, Wheaton, or on the ISA website at ilsheriff.org.

Students must complete the application, answer the essay question and return all documentation to the sheriff's office by March 15 (must be postmarked by this date).
