Holy Angels School to host open house, fun fair for Catholic Schools Week

Since 1974, National Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the U.S. It starts the last Sunday in January and runs all week. In 2019, it will be Jan. 27 to Feb. 2.

This year's theme is "Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed."

Schools typically observe the annual celebration week with Masses, open houses and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members. Through these events, schools focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to the church, the local communities and the nation.

Holy Angels School, 720 Kensington Place in Aurora, will begin the week with an open house from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27. Parents will be able to tour the school, check out the Fine Arts Fair from 10 a.m. to noon in the Leurck Library, as well as enjoy the entertainment of the talent show starting at 1 p.m.

Monday is "Be a Good Sport Day." Students may dress down and wear their favorite team sweatshirt or jersey. Tuesday is "Awaken to the Needs of the Community Because I CAN Make a Difference Day." Students may wear pajamas to school and are encouraged to bring in a canned good for the pantry. Wednesday is "Dress Your Best Day." Students are asked to dress up to honor vocations. Eighth-graders will have their eighth-grade portraits taken that day. Thursday is "Crazy About our Teachers Day." Students may dress down in crazy outfits (crazy hair, socks, shoes, hat, colors, etc.) Friday is "We Show Our School Spirit Day." Students may dress down in school spirit wear as they cheer on either their teacher or eighth-graders in the traditional eighth grade vs. teachers volleyball game.

Saturday is "We Have Fun at School Day" with the Holy Angels Fun Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Finish off an action packed Catholic Schools week with a day of fun. Games, raffles, bounce house, face painting, food and balloons. All-inclusive wristband are $12 per student or $35 maximum for a family. Orders are due Friday, Jan. 25.
