hello

Gurnee--Woodland Community Consolidated School District 50 is seeking nominations from its parents, students, community and staff to name its next Gurnee Teacher of the Year.

Introduced in 2014, the award recognizes the excellent teachers who support the students in our Gurnee community. Roshaunda Henson from Elementary East was the first recipient from Woodland to receive the Gurnee Teacher of the Year award. She was followed by Rian Bogdala from Primary and in 2015, Tamara Graham from Elementary East in 2016, Darlene Lipczynski from Middle in 2017, and Traci Strieter from Elementary West in 2018.

The Gurnee Teacher of the Year award is given to a teacher from Woodland, Gurnee District 56 and Warren Township High School. The teacher will receive a plaque, be given a check for $1,000 and be formally recognized at a Village Board meeting on May 6 at 7:00 p.m.

"The village of Gurnee and the Henderson Foundation are very generous in creating the teacher recognition and we are honored to be part of a community partnership that appreciates extraordinary teachers in all three school communities," said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Joy A. Swoboda.

As Woodland enters the sixth year of this award, parents, staff, community members and students are all encouraged to nominate a teacher.

"There are so many deserving teachers for Woodland's Gurnee Teacher of the Year, therefore it is important for students as well as community members to take time to make nominations," Swoboda said.

Forms may be completed online via the website https://www.dist50.net/gt. Paper forms are also available at the schools and Educational Support Center.

Nominations must include no more than 500 words for each of the criterion listed below:

1. Is highly proactive in serving students and inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn.

2. Regularly contributes to and leads events that positively affect school life.

3. Demonstrates a commitment to creating a climate of caring and respect, ownership, acceptance and responsibility in children's lives.

4. Engages families/community members in instructional programs and the learning community.

We ask that you please submit your nomination form by Friday, February 1, 2019. The 2019 Gurnee Teacher of the Year will be announced at the beginning of April.

"While the award recognizes staff with teaching certifications, we also acknowledge that Woodland District 50 has exceptional non-certified staff whose contributions are appreciated," Swoboda said.
