Lutheran Life Communities announced that Lori Smith has accepted the offer to serve the organization as chief operations and nursing officer, effective Feb. 4.

Following a nationwide search for an exceptional leader with the knowledge, experience, talent and vision to advance operations and health care excellence across Lutheran Life Communities, Smith stood out as the ideal candidate.

Smith brings nearly 25 years of nursing and leadership experience with a fresh outlook and a renewed emphasis on operational and service excellence.

In her most recent leadership position as chief nursing officer for Ascension Living, Smith contributed to the effective integration of multiple senior living organizations to create one of the nation's largest nonprofit senior living provider systems.

As chief operations and nursing officer for Lutheran Life Communities, Smith will be overseeing all aspects of the organization's operational and health care support while leading the preparation for Medicare's new payment system, PDPM. As part of the corporate executive leadership team, Smith will also play a key role in advancing strategic initiatives, bolstering quality and building capacity for continued growth.

Smith shares, "I am excited to be joining Lutheran Life Communities and eager to contribute, alongside my new colleagues, toward the next chapter of excellence in this organization's faithful history."

Lutheran Life Communities is a system of senior living options that is actively strengthening a leadership team to advance operations, innovation and position for growth in the near future. The organization's history dates back to 1892, beginning with the senior living community that is now known as Lutheran Home in Arlington Heights.

Lutheran Life Communities serves seniors and their families on six campuses within Illinois, Indiana and Florida.
