District 300 board approves adjustment to Hampshire Middle School boundary

On Nov. 27, the Community Unit District 300 Board of Education voted to approve a Hampshire Middle School boundary adjustment recommendation impacting Gilberts Elementary School and Dundee Middle School.

The approved recommendation adjusts the attendance boundary for Gilberts Elementary School, which will feed into Dundee Middle School instead of Hampshire Middle School, beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.

In August 2019, students residing in the Gilberts Elementary School attendance boundary will begin attending Dundee Middle School for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade.

The approved attendance boundary adjustment did not impact high school boundaries.

Current sixth- and seventh-grade students at Hampshire Middle School who reside in the Gilberts Elementary School attendance boundary will have the option to transition to Dundee Middle School or remain at Hampshire Middle School.

On Friday, Nov. 30, a letter was sent to all families impacted by the boundary adjustment through the U.S. Postal Service.

This letter will ask parents with current sixth- or seventh-grade Hampshire Middle School students to indicate if their student will complete their middle school experience at Dundee Middle School or Hampshire Middle School.

Parents and guardians will have until Friday, Dec. 21, to return their decision to the Hampshire Middle School main office.

Note: For the 2019-2020 school year, District 300 will provide transportation to any eighth-grade student (current seventh-grade student) who chooses to remain at Hampshire Middle School; however, District 300 cannot provide transportation to next year's seventh-grade students (current sixth-grade students) who decide to remain at Hampshire Middle School.

Transportation will be provided to all of next year's seventh- and eighth- grade students (current sixth- and seventh-grade students) who decide to transition to Dundee Middle School.
