Vintage Aurora 2019 calendar salutes Aurora police and fire

The brave souls who have looked after the safety of the city and her citizens over the last century and a half are saluted in the 2019 calendar from the Aurora Historical Society.

"Vintage Aurora: Police and Fire" is comprised of photos drawn from the archives of the society.

The pictures span the years 1872-1970 and include the men and the machinery, as well as a few horses, of the fire departments. In the mid-1800s, there were as many as four companies operating at the same time, and the police department.

The calendar is $14.95 plus tax, with a 10-percent discount to historical society members.

It is available at the gift shop of the Aurora Historical Society shop in the David L. Pierce Art & History Center, 20 E. Downer Place, or online at www.aurorahistory.net.

Online orders will be shipped at an additional charge. Gift shop hours are noon to 4 p.m. Wednesdays to Saturdays.

The calendars, which first started in 2007, feature historic photos from the historical society's archives.

The Aurora Historical Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.
