North Aurora Mothers Club hosts annual Operation Christmas

The North Aurora Mothers Club, a local nonprofit made up of about 60 women in the North Aurora area, is celebrating its 21st year.

As part of the club's "Operation Christmas program, they partner with West Aurora Unit District 129 which refers families in need to the program, work with local businesses and churches to fulfill each family's Christmas needs and wants, and organize food drives with the local schools to provide a bin of nonperishables to each family.

This year, with the help of volunteers and sponsors, the club is able to help 34 families in the North Aurora area.

The club hopes to help even more next year as there are so many in need.

Also this month, the club is participating in the annual North Aurora Evergreen Holidays from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Riverfront Park, North Aurora. Decorated, sponsored Christmas trees line the park pathway and holiday music performed by third-grade choirs from Fearn, Schneider and Goodwin schools. There will be crafts, cookie walk, hot chocolate, popcorn and more.

The club will hold its annual Christmas party and monthly meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 4, at The Springs at Orchard Road clubhouse.

On Friday, Dec. 7, the club is hosting an "Ugly Sweater Christmas Comedy" fundraiser at 8 p.m. at Zanies Comedy Club at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St. in St. Charles. Cost is $25 per ticket; there is a two-drink or food item minimum. "Mr. Showtime" David Scott will be performing.

Due to the New Year's holiday, the first meeting of the year will be Tuesday, Jan. 8. It will be 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Garage 31, 102 S. Lincolnway, North Aurora.

The club is also planning its community dinner from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.
