Elgin Vineyard to hold Blue Christmas service Dec. 9

Songs about Christmas as the "most wonderful time of the year" can be hard to embrace when there's been a death or divorce, financial woes or troubles of many kinds. The struggle is real, but so is God's offer of hope.

Hope and comfort will be offered at a special Blue Christmas service on Sunday, Dec. 9, at Vineyard Church of Elgin, 220 Division St. The public is welcome to attend.

The service will begin at 5 p.m. and last about an hour.

In the weeks leading up to Christmas, Elgin Vineyard is welcoming the Advent season with a special sermon series, "Inbreaking: The Kingdom Come at Christmas." Halie Howells, a licensed family counselor, will speak Sunday, Dec. 9, about the peace that Jesus brings in a message titled "The Power of Peace."

Services are at 9 and 11 a.m. All are invited to attend. Those who come early can grab a free cup of coffee from the wide selection available a half-hour before each service begins.
