Woodland students to stage 'Folk Tales for Fun'

Woodland Intermediate School's fourth- and fifth-grade students are presenting "Folk Tales for Fun" as the annual fall production.

A performance will be held Friday, Nov. 9, in the multipurpose room at the school, 1115 N. Hunt Club Road, Gurnee. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m.

"Folk Tales for Fun," is a play written by Carlos Perez, produced by special arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service Inc. Join the Storytellers, led by Ivy Berndt and Gwen Young, as they journey around the world hearing folk tales with morals and lessons everyone can relate to.

The stories come from many different cultures, and with the help of Decipher, played by Andrew Cowell, the audience hears parts of each story in the original language of the country.

Follow the Navigator, played by Katrina Anderson, and the all-knowing I Don't Know, played by Dashiell Rutzen, as they spin tales of friendship, honesty and acceptance.

The show is directed by Intermediate School teachers April Cooksey and Pam Valkenaar, with assistance by Interemediate School teacher Katie Meinke and a student crew.

Tickets cost $5 for adults; free for kids 12 and younger.

A bake sale will be held during the intermission and all proceeds from the bake sale and performance will benefit the Woodland Intermediate Drama Fund.
