Garden club gives landscape award to The Office
On Sept. 24, the Pottawatomie Garden Club awarded its annual Landscape Commendation Award to The Office restaurant at 201 E. Main St., St. Charles.
This award goes to a local business that has beautified the community through its landscape. Previous winners include the Clarke Corporation, Blue Wave Products, Fine Line Creative Arts Center, Elite Extrusion Tech, and Burritos Mexicanos.
The club meets on the fourth Monday of the month from February to October at the Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles. The meetings begin with a social time followed by a short business meeting and a program. The September program was "Putting Your Garden to Bed" by Bill Karges. He shared many do's and don'ts about putting the flower and vegetable garden to bed for the winter, plus gave tips on helping the garden get a jump on spring. Earlier in the month, club members planted fall flowers in downtown St. Charles.
Since 1928, the members of Pottawatomie Garden Club have made St. Charles a more beautiful community. They plant flowers on the Main Street and Illinois bridges, and around the Municipal building each spring and fall; they honor past members with the Memorial Tree Program; and they present an annual Landscape Commendation Award to businesses in the township.
The club also awards an annual scholarship to horticulture students and provides support to gardening and environmental projects in the community.

The meetings are open to the public.
