College of DuPage promotes innovation and creativity during Global Entrepreneurship Week

Join College of DuPage for a series of interactive events designed to encourage the next generation of leaders Nov. 13-15 as part of Global Entrepreneurship Week.

Activities educational content for startup entrepreneurs and small business leaders, and a pitch contest for COD students and local high school students.

All events are free and open to the public and located on the college's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

"Global Entrepreneurship Week is a great opportunity for COD to celebrate community innovators, while also providing a forum for our next generation of leaders - not only to learn what it means to be an entrepreneur, but to actually put it into practice," said COD Business Program Support Specialist Bev Carlson.

Educational events include a Women in Business Founders Panel from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13; an interview with entrepreneur Joshua Si from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14; and "Global Entrepreneurship: How Education is Solving Social Issues" with speaker Sundeep Vira from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15.

All three events will be held in the Student Services Center, Room 3245.

In addition, listen to COD and local district high school students pitch their business ideas to a panel of experts during COD's second Pitch Contest from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14. The competition is sponsored by the College's Innovation DuPage, E2 Emerging Entrepreneurs program and Entrepreneurship Club.

Peter James, business professor and Entrepreneurship Club advisor, said the contest will present participants with a challenge that will have long-term benefits.

"The opportunity that presents itself with this pitch contest is not just financial," James said. "It challenges participants to stretch themselves outside of their comfort zone and seize this moment in order to move one step closer to their dreams. This is the true definition of entrepreneurship."
