Sister City Termini Imerese visits Elk Grove Village

A delegation from Elk Grove Village's Italian Sister City, Termini Imerese, visited over Columbus Day weekend in early October for a trip packed with cultural and educational activities. The delegation participated in Chicago's Columbus Day Parade down State Street, along with local representatives from the Elk Grove Village Italian Sister Cities organization.

On Tuesday, October 9, the Italian delegation, which included visiting medical professionals, toured the Village of Elk Grove, beginning with a visit to the AMITA Health Alexian Brothers Medical Center. The tour continued with stops throughout the Village's booming 6-square mile industrial park, which recently reached another record low vacancy rate of 2.55%.

The tour of the Business Park included a stop at the active construction site for the new 85-acre Elk Grove Technology Park, as well as a visit to the Enclave for Entrepreneurs facility on Turner Avenue, a learning-and-earning center to support entrepreneurship in the community. The visit concluded with a tour of the Elk Grove Village Police and Fire Stations, followed by the Village Board Meeting.

Prior to the Board Meeting, members of the Italian delegation sat down for a visit with Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson. Mayor Johnson presented Gianfranc Micciche with a replica of the Elk Grove Village Clock Tower as a special memento of their visit. Pictured to the right of Mayor Craig Johnson is Gianfranco Micciche, President of Parliament of the Region of Sicily and to the left is Mariann Gullo, liaison for the Sister Cities Organization with other members of the delegation.
