Gender diversity crucial to advancements in science and tech

Stanford University Professor Londa Schiebinger will discuss the far-reaching effects of the gender gap in STEM on health, medical research and technological innovation during a symposium sponsored by Rosalind Franklin University from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13.

"Gendered Innovations under the Microscope" the university's third annual Women in Science and Healthcare Symposium addresses the importance of gender when conducting research and designing new products in healthcare and technology.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held on the RFU campus, 3333 Green Bay Road, North Chicago.

Schiebinger is the John L. Hinds Professor of History of Science at Stanford. She's also director of the European Union's Gendered Innovations in Science, Health & Medicine, Engineering, and Environment Project.

Introductory remarks will be provided by Rosalind Franklin, niece of the university's namesake. A panel discussion will follow the keynote and a dessert reception will conclude the evening.
